Christmas at the Hub

We are well and truly into the swing of Christmas now at Melbourn Hub!

Last weekend we hosted our ever popular “Turn on to Christmas” event. During the day Santa paid us a special early visit to meet lots of children in his grotto and find out what they wanted for Christmas this year. He gave out some lovely gifts and all the children seemed very happy with their presents!

Then, as it started to grow dark, we switched into party mode for ‘Turn on to Christmas’, in association with Melbourn Fete. There was a huge tombola for both children and adults, a well-stocked bar serving mulled wine and mince pies, lots of different activities for children and some fabulous performances from the wonderful duo, Amelia Froggatt and Beth Archer, and the Social Vocals Choir! And the lucky raffle winner of our wonderful Christmas hamper was Matt who lives in the village.

Finally, to top it all off, we switched on the lights of our beautiful Christmas tree. It took a few attempts but with thanks to our VIP, Joseph, we got there in the end and the tree will now be lit up every day during the festive period.

All that and it’s not even December yet!

But there’s still lots going on:

  • Last week we launched our very special ‘Giving Tree’. This is an initiative by Melbourn guide Ellie who is working towards her community badge. Come and visit our ‘Giving Tree’ inside the Hub if you would like to help a local child in need this Christmas. Just take a tag, buy a gift and return it unwrapped to the Hub who are working with Melbourn Playgroup MOOS and Melbourn Village COllege to brighten a child’s Christmas this year.
  • And we now have Santa’s Postbox in the foyer! Come and post your letter to Santa with us. We will provide Christmas letterheaded paper and crayons if you would like to write it while you’re here. Or, if you prefer, you can pick up a colouring sheet and do us a special Christmas design! If you leave your name and number on the back we will pick a winning design in the new year!

And last but not least, the library has lots of festive books for you to choose from too! There are plenty of children’s Christmas books in the Junior Fiction section as well as lots of Christmas fiction for adults in the General Fiction bay.
