Melbourn Community Library is one of the key services delivered by Melbourn Community Hub. The library function is run entirely by volunteers for the benefit of the community.

We are open:

Free car parking, including disabled parking, is easily accessible opposite the Hub building. Two disabled parking bays can also be found at the rear of the Hub. The Hub building is fully accessible by those with mobility problems. The Library is situated on the ground floor with disabled access toilets and baby change facilities.

There are two public transport options. The Melbourn Hub can be reached by bus, with the bus stop only a few minutes walk away. Alternatively, frequent train services are available from Meldreth station, about a 15-minute walk from the Hub.

The Melbourn Hub hosts the Bookmark Café, available to borrowers during library hours, with both indoor and outdoor seating.

We have a selection of adult fiction and non-fiction, which include biographies, some local history and back issues of the “Melbourn Magazine”.

We also have large print books and a children’s section with board books and picture books for the very young and a selection of books for junior readers and older children.

The Community Library is integrated with the County Council library service that provides certain categories of material such as large print items and some children’s books. Any book can be ordered and quickly obtained through our link with the wider library service simply by asking at the Hub desk during opening hours.

Funds are raised to buy new books and the library receives a steady supply of donations. We also welcome good quality, recently published books as donations for our library shelves.

Volunteers took over the running of the library in 2003 after closure by the County Council. Previously situated in temporary buildings on the Melbourn Village College campus it was included as a key part of the services planned from a new Melbourn Community Hub. The Melbourn Community Library moved to become part of the Hub when this opened in February 2014. In 2021 the Hub, together with the Community Library, was extended and remodelled in order to improve its ability to serve the community.
