We are delighted to be supporting local artist Sue Cain throughout April.
I grew up in Woodford Green and did a commercial art course (now called graphics). I remember Letterset and colour first being able to be printed on poly bags. I really wanted to do a fine art course but couldn’t afford it. I eventually worked for the Welding Institute at Great Abington in publications.
I have always drawn and painted even after marrying and having children. I mainly did small scale gouache, pastels and water colours whilst the children were growing up. I went to evening classes and day courses using oils then getting to grips with acrylics which took me a long time to like!I love collage and mixed media.
In more recent times I have been on printing courses and to learn about collagraph printing.
Some of my work is one piece and others themes – like how we communicate or how children react to each other.
My passion all through life has been drawing. I find bodies fascinating like landscapes, whatever shape or wrinkle!
